MIl
Mil is a sacred eating experience. After all how could it not be as the restaurant is placed on the sacred ground of Moray Moras in the Andean mountains. Chef Virgilio Martinez commands his birthright and connection to his mother, Peru with the utmost care that is seen through the eyes of the shepards of his creation.
If you visit the food lab on site which is overseen by his botanist sister Malena Martinez you will learn the secrets of the plants. You can watch the people working in the lab whisper out a cocktail contrived of a new alcohol they are making with the fish from lake Titicaca. The people who work inside are as knowledgeable as they are passionate. The planning ahead that it takes to visit Mil is more than worth it.
Rent a car and prepare for a two hour drive from Cusco be careful of falling cliffside’s and a road only one car wide with two way vehicles passing. It might take you another hour if you have enough cars backed up as one side will need to agree to let the other side through and this delicate negotiation takes much deliberation.
Did I say it was all worth it?
